Bongos Ikwue

Bio

He was born on June 6 1942 at Oturkpo, Benue State, Nigeria. He attended St Pauls Secondary School, Zaria and Okene Comprehensive Secondary School, where he formed his first band- the Cubana Boys.

He moved on to the Ahmadu Bello University to study Business Administration. At University, he formed the UniBello Band and was also part of a Folk Band comprising expatriate lecturers. He formed his band the Groovies in 1967 and swiftly became a musical legend with hits through the 70's and on to the 80's- like "Living in Lagos", "Maryama", "Still searching", "Eche une", "Whats gonna be" etc.

At the peak of his career, he wrote the sound-track to the hugely successful drama- "Cock crow at dawn". He veered away from music briefly, but re-launched his career with a new album in 2008 and an award-winning movie- "Inale".
