Chechemba

Chechemba is a jazz musician from Malawi. He is now in his 80s. He is a veteran in the country's music scene. He was a music teacher for many years and played in various bands. He currently performs every weekend at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre. He plays the banjo and guitar and has been a professional instrumentalist for the past 61 years.

Between 1952 and 1959, he was a member of Kings Africa Rifles brass band. He left the band at the height of the 1959 State of Emergency in Nyasaland. The emergency was declared after resistance to colonial authority grew.

Apart from singing, Chechemba owns Chechamba Music School in Blantyre.
