Bio

Laureate Seleshe is a world-renowned musician, performer, storyteller and musical instrument builder with extensive experience performing internationally and collaborating with well-known blues, rock, jazz African and world music performers.
His exceptional talent lies in blending story and drama with music and facilitating audience participation.

Lourate Silleshi is a master krarist. He has worked closely with international artists and organisations to share and educate audiences about Ethiopian and African musical culture through shows and workshops. He partnered with the Center for Ethiopian Arts and Culture in Washington DC, to establish a music school to teach the local community the art of instrument making and playing the Kirar, Mesenqo, Begena, and drums.

Having lived and studied overseas, he returned to Ethiopia, in 1990 as a Music Ambassador. He had a mission to build a bridge between Ethiopian-American artists and Ethiopia. He conducted a series of performances and workshops at the US Embassy in Ethiopia, and several universities, music schools and High Schools in Ethiopia.
He also presented several performances through public and private media channels which were broadcast across Ethiopia.

• During his time teaching at the Yared Music School, he initiated several programmes to formally teach students and aspiring teachers performing arts, traditional music and writing. These programmes benefited over ten thousand selected participants coming from several high schools across Ethiopia.

His later career saw Laurate Seleshi become an environmental and social activist. He initiated the 'Addis Ababa Clean and Green Initiative' which aimed to clean and rewild spaces around Ethiopia and reverse biodiversity depletion and pollution. He mobilised and trained over 18 thousand volunteer high school students from multiple regions in Ethiopia who `participated in cleaning and greening of their respective cities. In recognition of this incredible work, Laurate Seleshi has received several awards of international significance from several renowned institutions globally. To mention them but few:
• 2004- The green gold award at the house of commons, English parliament, Award stood 1st in Tree Planting and Waste management.
• International Health Association (IHA) Award
• American Diaspora award (Wash.D.C) Award
• WASH (water hygiene and sanitation) award and many other awards from national and international commutes.
• 1998- United Nation (UN) award winner on Cleaning and Greening

From the above detailed, education, experiences, award winning talents aside his music ambassador was given a laureate award.
