Klaus-Kuhnke Archive of Popular Music

Bio

The Klaus Kuhnke Archive is a reference archive that contains approximately 100 000 records. Periodicals and music magazines can also be searched online. Klaus Kuhnke was one of the most respected thinkers in the area of popular music and often exposed dullness in music and musical radio programmes. Kuhnke, together with Manfred Miller and Peter Schulze founded the Archive of Popular Music as a non-profit company in 1975.

After Kuhnke's death the remaining founders decided to rename the archive in honour of him. In 1990 the city of Bremen partnered with the Klaus-Kuhnke Archive and now runs the archive.

In 1991, the Klaus Kuhnke Archive became an institute at the Bremen academy of arts and is now open to a wider public. It is open to members of the public such as educators, musicians, journalists, academics, collectors, etc.

Members of the public are welcome to visit the archive on Monday between 09h30am and 19h30pm, Tuesday to Thursday between 09h30am and 16h30pm.
