Maru-a-Pula School

Bio

Maru-a-Pula School is a school in Gaborone, Botswana with a music department that is home to the most thriving and dynamic high-school music community in the country. Their students and faculty, although diverse in their interests and skills, are all united by their passion for the subject. Academically, the department’s teachings strike a balance between practical, theoretical and historical knowledge. All junior students learn to play a western instrument as well as Maru-a-Pula’s signature instrument – the marimba. For seniors, music is offered at the IGCSE Level, a rigorous but well-balanced course in music history, theory, performance and world music.
The institution has a number of music ensembles including Nteta, a close harmony group; the Maru-a-Pula Orchestra as well as the Maru-a-Pula Marimba Band. The music department organizes a number of events each, culminating with Tutti and Soli, a comprehensive showcase of the school’s musical talent.
