Mus’Art Gallery (Grass-fields Museum)

Bio

Founded in December, 1996, Mus’Art Gallery is an art museum in Kumbo, Cameroon. It was established in honour of the Cameroonian artist Daniel Kanjo Musa (1930–1995) and his eldest son John Yuniwo Musa (1956–1996). It houses a collection of over 400 art objects that were mainly created by the Musas between 1970 and 2000. The collection includes bamboo work to wood carvings, from basketry to pottery. Also known as the Grass-fields Museum, it is a place for exchanges and education, a place where arts offer a better understanding of history and traditions from the Grass-fields region of Cameroon.

The museum has been active in preserving the Nso cultural heritage. It continues to acquire contemporary Cameroonian arts and crafts while maintaining a major focus on the Western Grass-fields region, a region renowned for having produced masterpieces of African art.

Other objects collected from the grass-fields and preserved at the museum include traditional music instruments, hunting gadgets, metal works, bamboo objects and pottery.
