Bio

The African music archive includes in particular works of African performers and composers since the mid 20th century. The intention of this archive is to collect and document the development of modern styles, for example, in popular music, Christian and Islamic music, or musical theater. In addition to stocks from Africa, works from other regions are also represented, especially India and Oceania.

The archive contains recordings (LPs , singles , music cassettes , audio tapes ), sheet music and written documents. The majority of this archive belongs to the holdings of the University Library Bayreuth, other parts belong to the archive of the Iwalewa House at the University of Bayreuth. Works are searchable via the database of the University Library Bayreuth.
