Mwezi Wawala International Arts and Theatre Festival

The Mwezi Wawala International Arts and Theatre Festival is a popular event in Malawi. 'Mwezi Walala' is a Chichewa phrase meaning ‘the moon is out and shining'. People in Malawi traditionally sing and dance under the moon. Some sit around a fire and listen to stories from the elders. As such, elders pass on tradition and culture through narratives, song and dance. The event is the first of its kind in the country. People are given the opportunity to perform. Apart from dance and music, the event incorporates workshops which are conducted by professionals in their respective artistic fields.
