Omarii, The Aura

Bio

[Formerly known as Omari Afrykah]

Omarii, The Aura is a 23-year-old Hip-Hop multi-hyphenate from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Omarii started making music at the age of 11, under the moniker "Twist Chroniq." He had written his first song after putting together and performing a jingle, with the 2010 World Cup as the theme, on the spot as an Arts and Culture project in Grade 6, which he ended up getting one of the highest marks in his class for. At a time in his life where his self-esteem was at his lowest due to being bullied excessively, he had finally found something that made him feel alive and special.

He began to write and record music from his cellphone, as well as over his friend's Macbook Pro with his earlier high school friends such as The Artist known as Sphwe, before eventually affording to go to studio by selling sweets and snacks in his new high school.

Since then, Omarii has recieved multiple nominations at various award ceremonies, including 3 nominations at the first annual 011 Awards 2019, for Best Newcomer, Best Collaboration and Song of The Year for his 2018 release, "Blue Water", alongside dineo destiny and Uncle Riich (formerly known as Reigh Nastee.)

He very shortly went on to the be the runner-up on the STQ Media's 10K Challenge 2019 for artists on the rise.

He also scored three category nominations at the 2020 African Social Entertainment Awards, which included Best Newcomer Artist, Best Male Artist and Best Hip Hop, a category which he was nominated alongside Manu Worldstar and Costa Titch for.

In 2021, his 2020 release, "Yes Please" peaked at #13 at The Djooky's Global Rounds Charts (a platform powered by Capitol Records) where he was the only Southern African artist to do so.

Outside of career-shifting nominations, he recently performed at the Road to Vegas Livestream Festival 2022, where he opened for Anthony Hamilton and Sxnic Universe.

Omarii describes his style as "what would happen when two polar opposite individuals allowed themselves to be themselves with no judgement," and uses his music to express his thoughts, emotions and experiences in his lifetime. He highlights AKA, Khuli Chana, James Brown (whom he shares a birthday with), Kendrick Lamar, HHP, Anderson Paak, Burna Boy, Smino and Jaden as his biggest influences, because of how fearlessly they had shown their out-the-box styles and nature in music and personal lives.

Omarii also allows his other creative endeavours to bleed into other disciplines through his creative company, Lotus Push, which has already commissioned numerous other projects scheduled for release in the near future.
