Bio

Riana Nel is a popular singer-songwriter who grew up in Windhoek, Namibia. She later moved to South Africa to begin her career in music. Her music is a fusion of pop and country. Her debut album ‘Oopmond’ was released in 2001. It was followed by ‘The Cure’ (2003), ‘Someone With Skin’ (2005), ‘Collection Set’ (2006), ‘Die Moeite Werd’ (2011) and ‘Die Regte Tyd’ (2014).

Riana has won a number of awards. In 2000, she won the Crescendo Awards. In 2012, she won a Tempo Award for Best Pop Album. In 2013, she won a Ghoema Award for Songwriter of the Year, which she shared with Johan Vorster. The musician has written songs for popular Afrikaans artists such as Juanita Du Plessis, Bobby van Jaarsveld and Lianie May. She has performed not only in Namibia and South Africa but also in France, the Netherlands, the UK, Nashville in the USA, Russia, Mozambique and Australia. Apart from music, she also starred in the Afrikaans movie 'N Saak Van Geloof'.
