Rozalla Miller

Bio

Rozalla Miller was born on 18 March 1964 in Ndola, Zambia. She began performing at a young age in Zambia singing in clubs, at special events and on a children’s TV show. She relocated to Zimbabwe at the age of 18. Her father, a Zimbabwean, had moved to Zambia from Rhodesia during colonial times to seek greener pastures. She lived in Chinhoyi briefly between 1982 and 1983 before moving to Harare where she went with the intention of enrolling at a college to learn elementary typing. While in Zimbabwe, she became part of various RnB cover bands such as the Rusike Brothers and Boykie Moore’s band, Grab, before beginning her own recording career. In 1984, she recorded a single ‘Party Time’ with the Rusike Brothers. The song became popular in Harare and Bulawayo night clubs. In 1989, she former Radio 3 DJ, John Matinde sponsored her flight to the UK in 1989.

While in the UK, she met music producer Chris Sergeant, who was director of Unit Dance Records based in Wolverhampton. The producer is well-known for producing Lovemore Majaivana’s album ‘Jiri’ during his 1987 UK tour. She recorded three singles with Unit Dance. Her music genre was by then facing stiff competition from the likes of Whitney Houston. The Unit Dance label was later taken over by Sony Records which had also signed Michael Jackson under its stable. In 1990, she released her first UK single was ‘Born to Luv Ya’. This was followed by another single ‘Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good) (1991).’ The single was later included on her dance debut album ‘Everybody’s Free’ (1992). The album featured hits such as ‘Faith (In the Power of Love)’ and ‘Are You Ready to Fly’. Her debut performance was at Wembley Arena in London in 1992.

In 1993 and 1994, she launched two singles called ‘Look No Further’and Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)’. In 1995, she release her second album ‘Look No Further.’ In 1996, she released ‘Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)’ (1996) remix. In 1998, she released her third album ‘Coming Home’. ‘Feelin’ Good’ (1998), Best of Rozalla Miller (2003). Some of the singles she has released since then are ‘Don't Go Lose It Baby’, ‘Friday Night’, ‘Live Another Life’, ‘Can You Feel The Love’ and ‘If You Say It Again’. In January 2015, she recorded a single ‘Shaking Through The Night’ with UK-based musician Farhaan “Kazz” Khan of the Bkay and Kazz fame. In May 2015, she released a single ‘If You Say It Again.’
