Bio

Scarlet (real names Jemimah Lerato Chulu) is a popular Zambian singer and songwriter whose music genres are Afro-jazz, reggae and soul fusion. She is also a poet, blogger and performing artist. She was born in Lusaka on 6 July 1987 to Zambian parents Wonder and Felicity Chulu. She is the firstborn of seven sisters. Her earliest memories of music are the jazz pieces her father used to collect and play in her home. She grew up in a rich musical background. Her father plays the guitar and her mother is a singer.

Her professional music career began two years after she graduated from university with a first degree in Linguistics with a minor in Literature. She first took part in a reality talent search that began her journey with the mic. After her uncle opened the label So Good Entertainment she spent the most part of 2010 writing and recording a variety of songs many of which made it onto her debut album ‘Unforgettably Yours’ which was released in 2012. In 2015 she released her sophomore album.

She has performed on the same stage with artists such as Kenny Lattimore, Zahara and Micasa. She has played at the Lusaka Stanbic Misty Jazz Festival that was graced by Hugh Masekela and Oliver Mtukudzi. She has become a fixture in the Zambian music industry.
She is a Youth Ambassador under at the US’ embassy in Zambia. She is also a member of the Lusaka hub of the Global Shapers initiative under the World Economic Forum. She is a brand ambassador for the Kayula Childhood Cancer Foundation and aspires to become a youth mentor. She has served as a judge on the Hit Talent TV series ‘Dreams’ on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation.
