Sir X

Bio

Born Batch Samba Ngum, Sir X is a Gambian hip-hop artist whose music career kick started in 2003. Often referred to as Five Star General or The Rap Justice, Sir X grew up in a music environment. In 2004, he became part of a Bundung based underground rap outfit called Nubian Soljaz together with his longtime friend Big Ams of Fippu Squad.

The group recorded two well-received singles such as ‘Hot Deal’ and ‘Trust’. The songs earned them a mark in the country’s music industry particularly the hip-hop scene. In 2005, they signed a record deal with Paradigm Records. The deal came to light when U.S’ A&R watched them performing on Hamalegi’s show recorded on DVD. The deal helped them to direct joint efforts towards gainful ventures.

In late 2005, he recorded his solo single at Bull Doff Records titled ‘Warrior’s Breath’. The song marked as the beginning of his career as a solo artist. In 2009, he released a video titled ‘Childhood Memories’. The project was premiered on national television.

Sir X has performed at a number of festivals in Senegal and has participated in different projects like the DK-BJL compilation, Nun Ak Yen compilation (Senegal), Dream Your Future Drama soundtrack/album, Buga Dem (anti-illegal migration campaign) and Jambarr (Scorpion U-17). He has widely featured on various songs by local artists.

In late 2012, he was awarded a scholarship at Mandingmorry Academy of Music (MAM) to undergo a twelve months professional training to help add more musical skills. In 2013, he released a debut fifteen track mixtape called ‘Hybrid Barz’. In 2015, his co- founded a monthly concert called Hip Hop The Nation under the umbrella of Smart Move and Hip-Hop Headz. The event seeks to promote the essence of hip-hop and how it gives back to the community.
