Skom Vibe

Skom Vibe is a dynamic trio band hailing from Clermont, Pinetown. The group consists of three talented individuals: Ntobeko "Dakota" Ngcobo, Lungisani "Blaze" Mkhize, and Sphesihle "Mdabu" Msomi. The name "Skom" is derived from "Skomplazi," another term for their township of origin, Clermont.

While the band itself may be relatively new, the members have individually been involved in the music industry for some time. Dakota and Blaze were former members of the group Zimdollar, while Mdabu worked with the band Amagongo. After their previous ventures, they pursued solo careers. Dakota gained recognition as the main artist for the SABC 1 Zone 14 soundtrack and his hit single "Kwath Angbhenge," which received significant airplay on major radio stations. Blaze has been involved in ghostwriting albums for various artists, while Mdabu worked closely with Thina Zungu under Summertime Music Production. They have shared the stage with prominent Durban artists such as the late Sfiso Ncwane, Big Nuz, Professor, and Hlengiwe Mhlaba, among others.

Coming from different backgrounds, with Blaze hailing from Kwaswayimane, Mdabu from Mzinto (Mgangeni), and Dakota from Clermont, Skom Vibe brings a versatile and relatable mix of experiences to their music.

Recognising a gap in the Durban music scene, the trio formed Skom Vibe. They are currently collaborating with DJ Target on their highly anticipated single, which is already making waves on dance floors. Additionally, they are working on an album with various producers, as they believe this project is not just for themselves but for everyone.

While their sound is rooted in Gqomu music, Skom Vibe aims to touch souls with their lyrical content. Their single focuses on raising awareness against women and children abuse, demonstrating their commitment to addressing important social issues.

Skom Vibe draws inspiration from pioneering acts such as Trompies, Alaska, and Big Nuz, building on the foundations laid by those who came before them. As they continue to make their mark on the music industry, Skom Vibe aims to bring their unique sound and meaningful messages to audiences everywhere.
