Starry Orchid

One of the more fascinating artistic uprising has been that of Starry Orchid. Pontsho Samson Modubatse was born and raised in Pretoria.

Starry’s output has swung from purposefully distasteful, experimental and crude to charming, psychedelic and sophisticated, sometimes blurring the distinction between art and extreme emotional experiences.

His first mixtape TOO BAD, CHILL (2022) debuted on the 25th of September under the persona of Samson, The Originator. The mixtape includes sounds from disruptive bedroom pop, grunge punk, and emo rap, it was regarded as one of the best mixtapes in the underground skateboarding community.

His first solo album ERIS (2023) debuted on 20th of September. It takes inspirations from genres such as Breakcore, Psychedelic Rap, Bedroom Pop, Rock and Neo Soul, the unique soundtrack of this album offers the listener a grungy horror story to an otherworldly experience. The album is distinguished above all other as one of the Best Urban Contemporary Albums and is featured in several major playlists.

This skateboarding enthusiast, whose interested in music, fashion and art, gatheres his unique sound from the likes of Tyler, The Creator, Pharrell, Lil Uzi Vert, Jaden, Tame Impala and Gorillaz. He embodies his style and aesthetic in his music.
