Tambarimba Arts
Bio
Tambarimba Arts is a company in Zimbabwe which focuses on the production of marimba instruments. It was founded by Don Chidavaenzi with the aim of identifying, developing and showcasing the abundance of artistic talent in Zimbabwe. The company helps to promote and protect cultural heritage through marimba music.
On 27 September 2014, the organization hosted an inaugural Tambarimba Marimba Festival for schools. The event had 30 schools participating at the event held in association with the Zimbabwe College of Music. On 16 November 2014, the organization partnered with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) to embark on a drive that was designed to promote the use of traditional instruments in schools around the country.
The idea behind this initiative was to revive traditional music from grassroots level across the nation. This was after researchers discovered that the rise of Zimdancehall and foreign genres was putting traditional music under threat. The company is also credited for organizing a number of events running under the theme “Bringing Marimba to Light”.
