Bio

Taurai Moyo, is a choreographer and the founder and director of Chenhaka Trust and Chenhaka Dance Academy. Taurai is a recipient of the National Arts Merit Award (NAMA) in 2008, honored for Outstanding Male Dancer. With an impressive 25 years of experience in the cultural creative industry (CCI), he has excelled in various facets, including performance, training, script writing, directing, producing, choreographing, and adjudicating cultural and contemporary dances. Moyo has shared his expertise by teaching cultural dances at primary, secondary, and tertiary colleges. Taurai Co-founded a multi-award winning dance group called Hloseni Arts and was responsible in all the Choreography and producing of the dance productions(1998-2011). all his 3 dance productions with Hloseni Arts were honored and scooped the Outstanding Dance group award 2008, 2009, and 2010 National Arts Merit Awards. He is notably credited with conceiving the first-ever Secondary Schools Folk Dance Festival, initially known as the Manicaland Schools Folk Dance Festival and later renamed the Zimbabwe International Schools Arts Festival. in 2015, Taurai trained primary school learners cultural dances and they won the national dance competitions in Zimbabwe and they were selected and travelled together to represent Zimbabwe in Antalya, Turkey. His extensive travels have taken him to several countries in Europe and Africa, where he has represented Zimbabwe. Furthermore, Taurai Moyo has held key positions, including Head of Programmes and Grant Manager at Chenhaka Trust during the DREAMS IC project in 2017 - 2018, Culture Actions Project Director and Grant Manager from 2017 to 2022, and Arts Management and Business project in 2022. He served as the Grant Manager and Project Coordinator for the Sound Connects Fund project known as Performing Arts Business and Digital Distribution, which is being implemented by Chenhaka Trust. Moyo is also a Drummer, instrumentalists, maker and designer of dance regalia and he is a specialist in teaching, playing and manufacturing of musical instruments such as Marimba (xylophones), Ngoma, and Djembes.
