Victor Kachaka

Victor Kachaka is a folk musician, guitarist and lawyer from Lusaka, Zambia. Kachaka shot to fame in the early 1990s when he recorded a single titled ‘It is True’. This was followed by another hit called ‘Beer Man’. His music can be characterized as Zambian folk music, incorporating elements of traditional Zambian music and western folk music. He prefers the use of satire and comedy to make poignant social commentary.

He performs very much in an African tradition, although his songs are modern. Using exaggerations and jokes to communicate a general message is part of African tradition. His musical language is influenced by the style of Bob Dylan than that of rappers.
