Call for applications: Training workshop for music professionals in Burkina Faso
The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) and the Goethe-Institut, in partnership with the Jazz à Ouaga festival and the Danish Embassy in Burkina Faso, are calling on music professionals to apply for a training workshop that will take place in Ouagadougou from 2 to 5 May. The workshop, titled Steps to a Professional Music Career, will be held in conjunction with the 25th edition of Jazz à Ouaga, which takes place from 28 April to 6 May.
The deadline for applications is 20 April and 30 candidates will be selected to participate in the workshop.
The four-day workshop is aimed at young professionals (musicians, managers, producers and distributors) who wish to learn key aspects of the music business to improve their careers. This is the third time that the MIAF and the Goethe-Institut have partnered to offer a mentorship workshop for music professionals after Kinshasa in the DRC hosted the first workshops in 2015 and 2016.
This year’s workshop will feature a combination of theory and practical exercises covering topics such as How to Start a Professional Career, Music Production, Social Media Marketing and Music as a Product, Intellectual Property, and How to Create a Music Project, among others.
Participants will also get a chance to learn more about the Music In Africa portal and how to use it to navigate the industry. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will receive a certificate.
Workshop organisers will soon unveil a list of trainers that will include established musicians, media professionals and marketing experts.
The workshop is in line with MIAF’s vision to support the African music sector through the exchange of information and skills. The MIAF is a pan-African initiative supported by the Goethe-Institut and the Siemens Foundation.
To participate in the workshop you have to:
- Be a musician, manager, producer or distributor based in Burkina Faso. Musicians must register with their managers.
- Have at least 2 years’ experience within the industry and have recorded at least a song or a demo (for musicians and producers).
Application forms can be completed online here. Selected participants will be notified via e-mail.
