Call for registrations: WIPO Alternative Dispute Resolution webinar in Nigeria

The event is aimed at discussing WIPO alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. 

Guest speakers of the webinar will include Aibee Abidoye (Chocolate City Group), Sandra Oyewole (Olajide Oyewole LLP), Ike Ehiribe (International Arbitrator and dispute resolver), Anthonia Alabi (Flytime Music Festival), Leandro Toscano (WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre) and Oluwatobiloba Moody (WIPO Nigeria Office).

The speakers will discuss entertainment related disputes such as licensing, music agreements, merchandising agreements, artist and talent agreements, distribution agreements and broadcasting agreements. Other disputes include production and co-production agreements, copyright related agreements, financing agreements, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, TV and other media formats, among others. Additionally, the webinar will examine opportunities for the use of WIPO ADR in handling said disputes.  

“Disputes in this sector can be brought before national courts, however litigation is not always well equipped to deal with the particularities of these types of disputes because the conflicts are often complex and require special legal expertise, as well as industry and market know-how,” a statement reads. “ADR mechanisms, including mediation and arbitration, offer parties and their lawyers high-quality, efficient and cost-effective ways to resolve their entertainment disputes out of court, especially contractual disputes.”
