Open call: TikTok Gimme the Mic competition

The virtual talent show is open to anyone aged 18 years or older, including duos and bands, as long as they are not signed with any record label or subject to a recording agreement or commitment of any kind.

“If any contestants are signed with a record label, then they may be removed from the search by TikTok at TikTok’s sole discretion,” TikTok said. “All submissions will become the property of TikTok. The participants must either own the rights behind performed tracks or have secured or caused to be secured any and all third-party consents, waivers, permissions and licences required for the use of the rights on a royalty-free basis to TikTok.”

The virtual talent show will involve three phases:

Audition

To audition, participants need to register on the audition page in-app and post one short submission video (30 seconds minimum) with hashtag #GIMMETHEMIC between 7 August and 16 August.

Semi-final

Following the audition period, 30 of the most popular creators from the US will be selected to move on to perform and compete in pairs in the semi-final, a series of multi-guest live videos on @tiktoklive_us from 1 September to 3 September. Those who tune in will have a chance to vote for their favourite performers in real time. Users can collect votes when they complete tasks like registering for live events and more.

Grand finale

For the final round, the Top 10 contestants from the semi-final will compete in the US grand finale on 10 September for the chance to be crowned as the US Gimme the Mic champion. In addition to the title, the winner will receive 50 000 Diamond rewards and a ticket to be a contestant in Live Global Finale that will take place on 22 and 23 September. The global finale will feature winners from around the world competing for the top spot.
