South Africa’s Nomfusi Gotyana to release third album in February
South African Afro-soul singer and performer Nomfusi Gotyana will release her third album in Germany on 10 February. The album will be released in her home country on a date to be announced.
The album, Africa Day, was recorded in Germany and South Africa, Africa Day has most of its songs written by the singer herself. "The beauty of African music is that you can tell serious issues quite easily," she says.
Africa Day opens with ‘Wave of Love’, a song of love, laughter and tears. ‘My Mothers Spear’ is dedicated to the memory of Nomfusi’s mother and all African mothers. ‘Hero’ is a rousing tribute to late South African statesman Nelson Mandela. ‘Stay With Me’ is an emotional work written when Nomfusi’s sister was dying. ‘Do not Play That Game’, is an energetic and dramatic song.
Born in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa, Nomfusi launched her music career in 2009 and has appeared at festivals such as World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD) in England, FMM Sines in Portugal. She has previously released two albums namely Kwazibani - Nomfusi & The Lucky Charms (2009) and Take Me Home (2012).
Nomfusi is a two-time SAMA nominee, Metro FM Award nominee and has performed on multiple local and international tours. Besides singing, she was cast to play Miriam Makeba in Long Walk To Freedom, a movie about Nelson Mandela.
Crowdfund for Africa Day
Using the crowdfunding website Kickstarter, Nomfusi’s management has turned to the public to raise funds to promote and launch her new album. The management requires a minimum of 8200€ ($8 800) to make the launch and promotion of the album a success. Below are the costs:
- 3000€ ($3 200) for a radio promoter and his team
- 2000 € ($2 140) for promoting the album on print and online media
- 1000€ ($1 070) for final artwork and the redo of Nomfusi´s website
- 1200€ ($1 290) for mastering of the songs
- 700€ ($750) for travelling costs through Germany and visit radio stations for interviews
- 300€ ($320) for making promotion CD´s
- 3500€ ($3750) fsor music video production if they collect more
“We have spent over 40.000€ ($42 950) so far and put our private monies and income from the concerts into this project over the last 3 years,” the artist said. “Now we need you to help us with the final amount to release it successfully.”
“We need you now!” says a statement by the artist’s management. “It has always been Nomfusi’s dream to become an international successful touring artist and star and you can help her now to get one big step further to her dream.”
