Mr. Rhee
Bio
Mr. Rhee (real name Richard Shikongo) was born in 1982 in Oshikwanailya and grew up in Outapi. Upon completing high school he moved to Windhoek, where he enrolled for a diploma in Electronic Engineering at the Polytechnic of Namibia. He later changed his studies to Marine Engineering, which he successfully completed in 2005. Richard developed a passion for music when he was in college, writing his own lyrics to the instrumental versions of P Diddy and LL Cool J’s songs.
He later met Fisha and Romano and the threesome set up a home studio in Mr. Rhee’s room at college. The room was used to produce his underground album called ‘Welcome’ (2005) as well as D-Jay’s first radio song, titled ‘Go D-Jay’. His track ‘She’s The Bomb’ won a competition for best hip-hop song on Omulunga Radio.
In December 2009, Mr. Rhee worked with handful of musicians on his second album ‘Yellow Banch’ namely Fisha from G-Respect of Entertainment Home Studio, Nel D from DeeStyle Record and Toca La of Ekia Record. In 2010, he completed his degree in Information Technology and continued to pursue his music career. In September 2011, he released his third album, ‘Amplified’. In 2013, he produced t another album called ‘Kulupa Nayo’. The artist describes his music as tambulah, a combination of African genres that is fused with modern rhythms. He sings in Oshiwambo and English languages.
