Oritshe Femi
Bio
Oritshe Femi is a Nigerian singer. Born in Lagos to a large family from the Itsekiri ethnic group in the Niger Delta, Oritshe Femi schooled in Ikoyi, Lagos before relocating to the cheaper Ajegunle. He dropped out of the university to focus on music after applying to study Law.
Before embarking on a solo career Oritshe Femi released 2 albums in a band, achieving minor success. His earlier forays into solo performance were personal and markedly political, alternating between anger and resignation at the political class. The first of these early songs to achieve a considerable audience was ‘Flog Politician’ (2007). A few more songs including ‘Mercies of the Lord’ (2009) from ‘Wicked World’ enhanced his status.
With the release of ‘Double Wahala’ (2013), a title borrowed from afrobeat maestro Fela, Oritshe Femi gained widespread acclaim and popularity. The song, a tribute to Lagos, won both the singer the Best Street-Hop category at the Headies and the Most Popular Song category at the City People Entertainment Awards in 2014.
Double Wahala was the first single from the album ‘MSN (Money Stops Nonsense)’ (2015).
