Maskiri

Alishias Musimbe, better known to his fans as Maskiri, was born on 6 April 1980 in Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe. Inspired by Eminem, he is a popular rapper in the country who is well-known for his controversial music. He calls himself “Bad Boy”. Maskiri is one of the pioneers of rap music. He sings in Shona and is hailed for his lyrical prowess. He attended Chemhanza Secondary School where he was involved in trouble with the authorities after playing truant on several occasions, bullying other students and absconding lessons. They were forced to expel him. His parents had to force him to enroll at St Aidens High School in Chitungwiza but he was no longer interested.

He rose to fame in 2002 with the song 'Muchinda Wangu' (My Friend). The song later featured on his debut album 'Muviri Wese' (The whole body). Most songs the ‘Muviri Wese’ album was well-received with tracks like 'Zimhamha' (Voluptuous, mature woman) and ‘Kwedu Kuchafiwa’ (My Loved Ones Shall Die Too). The song is an insult to an inheriting son who brags that his rich relatives shall die too thus he will also inherits money and women.

On 27 November 2010, Maskiri alongside fellow artist Nox Guni shot the ‘Wenera’ video. It was his first video to air on national broadcaster ZTV. Shot in Pretoria, South Africa, the ‘Wenera’ video won him Top ZBC Video of The Year award at the NAMAs.
He has done a number of concerts and has released the following albums, ‘Blue Movie’ (2005), ‘Muviri Wese’ (The Entire Body), ‘New Me’ (2010), ‘Ndotown yacho’, ‘Recovery’ (2013), ‘Tapinda Tapinda’ and ‘New Look’ (2015). The ‘New Look’ album was recorded at Bantu Beats Studios in South Africa. In January 2015, he collaborated with Australia-based Zimbabwean hip-hop artist on a song titled ‘Nzenza’.
