Joel Baloyi was admitted as Advocate of the High Court of South Africa in 2006 and teaches Intellectual Property Law and Commercial Law at the University of South Africa (UNISA) School of Law, where he is a Senior Lecturer. Joel has vast experience in the entertainment industry and has consulted in almost all areas of the industry. For many years he worked as Head of Legal Services and Company Secretary for the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), Africa’s leading collective management organization. In this position he assumed many leadership roles, including lobbying for the industry. He has been actively involved in entertainment industry activities and has frequently been invited to speak on Music Rights Law at events, including industry and government meetings and conferences. In 2014 Joel was awarded the position of Entertainment Law Expert of the Year for South Africa by Global Law Experts, and awarded the same position for 2015 by Corporate International Legal Awards.
