African Music Archive (Walter Sisulu University Department of Music)
Bio
The Walter Sisulu University (WSU) was established on 1 July 2005. It was founded as a merger of three tertiary institutions of Eastern Cape, South Africa namely University of Transkei, Border Technikon and Eastern Cape Technikon. The new university was named in honour of South African liberation struggle icon the late Walter Max Ulyate Sisulu.
Although no extensive information is given about the African Music Archive at the Music Department of the university’s Mthatha branch, the archive consists of approximately 1000 uncatalogued gramophone records on African music.
