Bwagamoyo Afri-Culture Drumming and Dance is a professional traditional music and dance from Tanzania. They began their career in 2005, drawing inspiration from the traditional music of Tanzanian tribes as well as other African tribes from Eastern, Western, and Southern regions. Their music is characterized by driving, syncopated rhythms that create an irresistible urge to dance.
Afri-Culture's music incorporates elements of Traditional Folk, Pop/Dance, and World Music. Their sound is a fusion of different styles, resulting in a unique blend of good-time music that is deeply rooted in culture, community, and environmental consciousness.
The group takes influence from various Tanzanian tribes such as Sukuma, Makonde, Pogoro, Gogo, Hehe, Nyakyusa, and Wasafa. These tribal influences contribute to the creative rhythms and dancing movements showcased in their performances.
Bwagamoyo Afri-Culture Drumming and Dance has showcased their talent in numerous venues and festivals in East Africa and Europe. Some notable performances include Saudi za Busara (Zanzibar) Alliance Francie (Kenya), Bagamoyo International Festival (Tanzania), Zanzibar Film Festival (Zanzibar), Haba na Haba International Contemporary Dance Festival (Tanzania), Green Piece Festival (Tanzania), Kendwa Rocks Full Moon Party (Zanzibar), Dusud Festival (France and Spain), and Surajkund Festival (India), among many others.
Apart from their performing career, Afri-Culture actively engages with their community. They host community theater events that educate and entertain, and also offer classes for schools, tourists, and volunteers. Through these initiatives, they aim to promote cultural awareness and appreciation for traditional music and dance.
