Big Ben & The Last Band
Bio
Ben Kandukira is a Namibian Afro-pop musician. Since 2001 he has released seven albums. In 2009 he collaborated with rapper EES (real name Eric Sell) on ‘Non of ur Business’, also releasing a popular music video for the track. In 2010 he released his fifth album ‘Natango’ featuring collaboration with prominent Oviritje singer Skelly. In 2013 Ben won Best Instrumental (Jazz) for ‘Social Avenue’ at the Namibian Annual Music Awards, and came second in the Last Band Standing competition at the National Theatre of Namibia. That year he also released ‘First Collection’, which includes re-recordings of old hits and four new singles. In 2015 he released a new single, ‘Africa Penduka’ and featured on ‘Windhoek City’ by Mud House Project on his label Okinikini Records.
He performs with his band as Big Ben & The Last Band, a group of five musicians, namely: Ben (vocals, rhythm guitar and saxophone), Piu Paulus (drums), Jean-Pierre Ntsika (bass), Kali Kasinda (keyboards) and Sam Butola (electric guitar). He has performed live with renowned saxophonist Will Ramsay in Berlin, Germany, and opened for Hugh Masekela at the Windhoek Jazz Festival.
The musician is one of the artists capable of pulling huge crowds in Namibia.
