Bu-Bery

Bio

Bu-Bery was born Morlai Fofanah. He was raised in Brookfields in the West of Freetown Sierra Leone, where he attended the Fatah Rahman Primary School and the Saint Edwards Secondary School.

His musical career started while growing up in Port Loko District in his family village. When he moved back to Freetown to continue school, he began to take part in local talent shows .He lost his father while studying at the Maritime School, and was going to drop out to start a career in music, but continued to honour the memory of his father.

In 1993, he started doing stage shows with a group called Step by Step, comprised of Shack Tee, Master Blaster, Loose Nut and Bu-bery. His First Albu,m Na Money Den Want, was composed and written with the aim of touching on socio-political realities of his people, including the war. The album went on to sell over 80,000 copies according to official sale records of the Sierra Leone Cassette Sellers Association.

His second album, Korbukor won him national and international acclaim and selling over 30,000 copies in its first few weeks and 100,000 copies to date. He thereafter released My Time to Shine, his third album, which was also a commercial success.
