Charles Charamba
Bio
Charles Charamba, better known as Baba Charamba, is a gospel artist from Harare, Zimbabwe.
Born on 27 April 1971 in Mudzi District, Charamba did his primary and secondary education at Masarakufa Schools in Mudzi. He is married to a gospel singer Olivia (née Maseko). His passion for gospel music was prompted by his love for the word of God. His music it is a fusion of sungura, jazz and jit. It is similar to traditional beats such as mbakumba and mhande. In 1993, he released seven singles followed by the launch a debut album ‘Tinashe Akatendeka’ (1997). This was followed by eight other albums namely ‘Johanne 3:16’ (1998), ‘Exodus’ (2001), ‘Daily Bread’ (2002), ‘Sunday Service’ (2003), ‘Verses and Chapters’ (2004), ‘New Testament On Song’ (2007), ‘Pashoko Pangoma’ (2010).
He has won the following awards: Best Gospel Artiste at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA), Best Gospel Artiste, Song and Video of the Year at the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) and Life Time Achievement. He has toured Africa, Europe and the US.
Charamba holds a National Certificate in Music and Bachelor's degree in Theology and a Bachelor’s degree in Ethnomusicology.
