Craig Lucas is a singer-songwriter from South Africa.

Over the past four years, CRAIG LUCAS’ name has become synonymous with#1 radio hits on airwaves across South Africa. The singer-songwriter from Elsies River on the Cape flats won The Voice South Africa season 2 in 2017. Despite having no musical experience, Craig captured the hearts of millions with his deeply emotive soul and wide vocal range.

CRAIG is a graduate in Economics and Politics at UCT, and is currently studying toward a Masters degree in Development Studies at UWC. Music however was always his first love. Writing and singing was an escape; it was his way dealing with his struggles with anxiety and depression. Craig has been very open about his battle with mental illness and has actively sought to create awareness on mental health issues. Since coming out as queer in 2018, Craig has made it a priority to bring queer representation to the mainstream, being among the first openly queer mainstream artists to showcase same-sex relationships in his music videos. Queer activism is an integral component of Craig’s artistry.

This self-taught musician describes his musical style as ‘alternative pop’ and strives to make music that speaks to everybody – especially kids like him – the misfits, the outsiders, the dreamer, and the non-conformists.

After the release of his first single, ‘I Said This’ to radio nationwide which also went to #1 on iTunes, his debut album, RESTLESS followed in October 2017. The album debuted at #8 on iTunes and earned him a SAMA nominated for ‘Best Pop Album’ in 2018. The album was written over the course of two months during various writing sessions with co-writers such as Bubele Booi, Dominic Neill and Jethro Tait. Tracks included on the album comprises of brand-new songs, two covers and a few reworks of tracks written a while ago by Craig himself. The album was produced by renowned South African producers - Peach van Pletzen, Bubele Booi and David Balshaw, and Ewald Janse Van Rensburg.

‘Smother’ was the second single released from RESTLESS. The single went GOLD with over 2 million streams and more than 5 600 radio plays, reaching#1on KFM Top 40, 5FM Pop Chart, GoodHopeFM and HeartFM. A duet version with 2017 Idols winner Paxton Fielies was released in 2018. ‘Hearts Exposed’ followed as CRAIG’s 3rd single, and followed in the success of his previous single with over 800 000 streams, more than 4200 radio plays and reaching #1 on KFM Top 40, 5FM Pop Chart, GoodHopeFM and HeartFM and has since gone on to reach GOLD status. Both singles also charted on AlgoaFM, JacarandaFM, 5FM Top 40 and 947 Top 40.
