Fil Harmonix
Bio
Edikan Abia, also known as Fil Harmonix, is a Nigerian composer of Contemporary classical music, producer, singer-songwriter and instrumentalist based in Lagos. He had developed a love of music since his childhood, growing up in a family of classical music lovers, but it wasn't until he was 13 years old when he composed what would be the first out of what would be more than a hundred pieces of instrumental music in 2004, using the computer program Melody Assistant. Thus, his passion for music was sealed. This passion remained unquenched during his university days, when he bought a second-rate recorder at a stationary shop before he could play it, and when he finally learned it himself, saved up to buy a better quality recorder and further honed his skill, all the while eventually earning his Bachelor's degree in the University of Port Harcourt, and even in his National Youth Service years, where he took part in the Ajuwaya Worship concert that took place in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state in 2016, playing both clarinet and recorder, as well as singing in the choir. In 2018, he chose to leave Port Harcourt in order to further his music training at the renowned Tenstrings Music Institute, where he would become an instructor of Rudiments of Music and Piano till date. Within that time, he would showcase his abilities in gigs such as the Night of Ensemble in Grasshoppers Bar in Festac Town, open mic night in Bogobiri in Ikoyi as well as the Tenstrings Ones2watch in Freedom Park. And he would take part in the Arts of Grace: Story of Job production by Graciedion Chorale as a choir member, baritone soloist and recorder player.
A largely self-taught recorder player, an instrument he has played for more than 10 years, a talented singer and composer, his style shows strong leanings to classical music, jazz, easy-listening, New Age and World music genres. His musical influences have been classical composers like Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, as well as musicians such as Yanni, Enya and Ed Izycs. His pieces and songs show an abundance of beauty and emotion, which is what he tries to depict in his music.
Two of his songs, Into the sky we go and The lone wolf, composed during his university days, can be streamed on Soundcloud on his account, Edikan Abia aka Fil Harmonix. He also has a YouTube
channel, where he posts covers of various songs rendered on recorder, including pieces of his own composition.
