Launched in 2009, Free Music Archive (FMA) is an online interactive library of legal audio downloads with a large collection of African music available for download. Visitors can easily listen and download as they please.

Every MP3 on the website has been pre-cleared for various types of uses that would otherwise prohibit their use due to copyright laws because the recordings were not designed for the digital era. The FMA is a resource for various audiophiles, all of which have been hand-picked by established audio curators.

FMA offers a platform for curators and artists to collaborate. Visitors can also access radio stations, venues, artist collectives, museums, music festivals and more. The FMA provides a legal and technological framework for these collaborators curators to harness the potential of music sharing.
