Just Music is South Africa's leading independent music company. It is the home of some of the world's leading independent labels: Beggars Group (including XL, Matador, Rough Trade and 4AD), Glassnote, Ministry of Sound, Mute, Domino, Ninja Tune, Spinnin, Dramatico, Hidden Beach Recordings, New State & Toolroom to name but a few. Just Music is also the South African home of key international artists such as Adele, Vampire Weekend, The National, Arctic Monkeys, The xx, Queens of The Stone Age, Bon Iver, Faithless, Dave Matthews Band, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Katie Melua, Afrojack and many others.
The company was started by Karl Anderson in June 2003. Karl, who held executive positions at both Gallo and EMI, decided to follow his passion for growing the independent music scene and creating a brand that is associated with great music, artist development, strong business ethics and consistent professional service to its labels, artists, media, retailers and consumers.
Just Music's South African artists have won over a dozen SAMA Awards over the past 5 years. In 2013 Just Music received a record 13 nominations, including four for The Muffinz' critically acclaimed debut album. Just Music's SAMA Award winners over the years include Shadowclub, Locnville, Yoav, Zebra & Giraffe, Dear Reader, Blk Jks, Harris Tweed, Karen Zoid and Lark.
