Madingo Afewerk
Bio
Madingo Afewerk is a singer of both cultural and contemporary Ethiopian Music. He was born In Ethiopia’s Gondar region. His child hood idols were the singers Ephrem Tamiru, Muluken Melese, Elias Tebabal. Apart from admiring these famous singers, he used to imitate their songs and he did this so well that it earned him love and admiration from many fans so early in life.
Artist Madingo was only ten years old when he left his family and entered the nearby military garrison drawn by the music. The astonishing thing about “visitor” was that he started singing with the military orchestra and he was so remarkable that the soldered of the regiment that the soldered of the regiment gave him “Madingo” which remained his official name till now. He spent the best part of his child hood in the garrison.
Madingo came to Addis Ababa at his teen years and joined “Zema Lastas Band” where he imitated some of the famous well known songs at night clubs and won the admiration of many.
Soon he was approached by producers who keenly observed the promising talent in the young boy and facilitated the production of his first album. Song like “Seyame Atahulat” and “Aman Newey Goraw” were instant hits.
Despite his tender age, Madingo took part in several live stage shows along with some of the best known singers. Today his exceptional accomplishment was when he sang the well known Ethiopian cultural songs “Tizita” in three different ways as it was sang by three different singers in single release. He imitated both the three singers so closely and so well that it was difficult to tell the difference from the original one. He was admired as much for his talent as for his creativity. His ability in voice control is remarkable.
Artist Madingo is always ready to take part in social activity such as fund raising for various purposes free of charge.
He was one of the young vocalists who were recommended by the Ethiopian Musicians Association in an event organized as part of the festivities to mark the Ethiopian Millennium celebration. He stood first and was awarded a medal by the President Girma W/Giorgis.
