Mariechi

Bio

Mariechi is a singer, songwriter, dancer, and pianist based in Dar es Salaam. Her style of music is magical, soulful, and inspirational, coupled with a soft yet strong voice that captivates her audience. Born and raised in Dodoma region, the capital city of Tanzania, she developed her
love for music at a very young age. She recalls starting to dance before she knew she could sing.

Her dad owned a local bar, which exposed her to dancing to Congolese music, which was at its peak in the late '90s. She became quite a famous dancer in her hometown, performing at weddings and other social events. A friend of hers named Josephina introduced her to Bongo Fleva music and other Western genres, and that's when she realized her talent and passion for singing.

She joined a choir in her local church and went on to become the lead singer for four consecutive years before moving to Dar es Salaam to pursue higher education, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine and Performing Arts, majoring in music. She is a professional music teacher with seven years of experience in musical education, teaching the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program Curriculum. Mariechi is a former member of the Tanzanite band, an iconic and famous band that performs cover songs at various five-star hotels in Dar es Salaam, such as Johari Rotana Hotel, Hyatt Regency Hotel, and Sea Cliff Hotel. While with the Tanzanian band, Mariechi sang cover songs by pop singers like Adele, Sia, and Celine Dion.

She started singing her original songs as she became exposed to different platforms such as Chi & Friends, Kitchen Party Gala, Bahati Female Band, Boresha Radio, and Simulizi na Sauti. She participated in the Djooky Music contest in 2021, and her track 'Ninasimama' peaked in the top ten for the continental round. Mariechi was one of the judges for the Dar es Salaam children's singing contest in Tanzania in 2020. She is currently working on recording her first album called 'Ninasimama,' and a song titled the same is the only one of hers that has already been recorded. 'Ninasimama' simply translates to 'I stand still.' This album will take the audience through a journey of Mariechi’s life for the past ten years. Her story will guide listeners through heartbreaks, divorce, abuse, single motherhood, celebrating life, finding love, and falling in love all over again. The album will consist of ten songs.
