Mawela Brigade

Established in 2006, Mawela Brigade is a group made up of three members: Monkey Shakes, Thabanga and Spenser. Monkey Shakes and Thabanga began singing in 2001 while in high school. The group was known as Mukwetu before Spenser joined them in 2006.

They became popular with their song ‘Oshiwambo’, from their debut album that was released in 2008. The group took a break before re-emerging in November 2014 for the release of their 18-track album called ‘Backspin’, a fusion of Shambo, gospel, reggae and kwaito. The album features a number of local artists such as Tequila on ‘I feel Your Pain’, Chipolopolo on ‘Salute My Soulja’ and Satlam on ‘Oove Hatu Pandula’.
