Msizi Mavundla
Bio
Msizi Mavundla is a record producer, songwriter, musician, composer, actor, publisher and author, born and bred in eSkomplazi (Clermont) KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He began his love for music in the 90s and the early 2000s in record production and promotion, music publishing, artist management and concert promotion.
Mavundla is the owner of Funkytigers Entertainment the first KZN record label and music publisher founded in 2004,through the label Msizi has worked, managed and produced music for artists like DJ Cyclops, DJ Sphetho, Blaze, Andile “Zuka” Shezi, Thula Afrojazz, he has formed partnerships with organizations like Imbokodo FM, Das Car Hire, Uhuru Afrique Restaurant, EThekwini Municipality and KZN Department of Arts & Culture where hosted events like the Fukula Music Competition which helped to launch maskandi and gospel artists like Skho naba Gqugquzeli, Abagijimi, Christian Brothers Ayanda Shange, Sphumelele Ngcobo and Inhlokomo yama Thophiya. He also supported other gospel artists launch their music careers through projects such as Isaiah Gospel Fire and Isambulo – Revelations 22:21.
In 2011 Mavundla founded Urban Sounds Magazine, South Africa’s No.1 music & entertainment magazine aimed at addressing the ever challenging issues of musicians and independent record companies, event organizers and music promoters, serving as an edutainment guide for musicians and music lovers, covering entertainment industry news, artist profiles & music reviews, book & movie reviews, music venues, concert & festival news, live shows & performances, music academy institutions, profiling label executives, producers, sound engineers, roadies and etc., and also giving recognition and respect to music veterans and legends that paved the way in sustaining and growing music in South Africa.
Mavundla is also a founder of Sounds of Azania an online radio station founded in the principles of Ubuntu and Africanism, the aim is to bring Africans together through music, arts, dialogue and culture. Embracing social cohesion while creating platforms to encourage and identify programs that will help to nurture, create understanding and cooperation in our communities. The station is a platform for the preservation and promotion of African Music, distinct sounds that tells the story of our traditions, heritage and culture, the diversity and the richness of country South Africa and the continent.
