National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA)

Bio

The National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) is a Zimbabwean forum that rewards and acknowledges artists who have excelled in their respective genres. The event was established in February 2002 by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe with the aim of promoting the arts sector by recognising and honouring outstanding achievements. The awards are meant to inspire artists to strive for a higher degree of originality and creativity. The event also gives artists a rare opportunity to jointly market and publicize the arts locally, regionally and internationally.

The event honours artists in the following sectors: music, film and television, theatre and drama, literature, creative art, visual arts. The event only recognizes artists residing in Zimbabwe. Selection is given to artist works done from 1 December of the previous year to 30 November of the current year. Artists can submit their work in various formats and are encouraged to submit at least three sets of it to assist the adjudicators.
