Bio
Ohayv Abir is undoubtedly, one of the most versatile musicians in the country.
His musical footprints are in hip hop, traditional folk, neo-soul and a little bit of jazz. Abir is not one to be boxed to any genre as he can unexpectedly switch it up at any given time necessary to fully share his musical ability. He can write and sing in both IsiXhosa and English, with multilingual approach in songwriting.
Abir is able to capture and bring his music closer to people of different walks of life, cultures and experiences. He is one of the pioneers of xhosa rap.
He is a very experienced live performer who has graced big stages such as Metro FM awards 2006, Jazz at the square, FIFA 2010 fan parks,
and SABC in house functions.
Abir has opened for big names like Mafikizolo, Don Laka, Vusi Mahlasela, Judith Sephuma, and many more. In 2012, he started putting together a four piece band, which is made up of piano, bass, drums and samples.
In 2014, Abir featured on Umhlobo Wenene FM as a guest poet for the Human Rights Day where his pre-recorded poems were repeated for an hour. On 1 May 2014, his song 'Ingoma Yabasebenzi' was a feature song on Umhlobo Wenene FM and played on four shows during that day.
Since he released his second album in 2012, he has been enjoying a great deal of airplay, mainly on Umhlobo Wenene FM, which helped market his singles 'I think I'm in Love' and 'Umzabalazo'.
Abir has proven himself to be a firebrand in the Eastern Cape music parts, packing shows in East London, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town and Johannesburg as well.
