Surprise Malanga

Surprise Malanga was born and bred in the dusty streets of Daveyton in the East rand. She is a talented singer with strong vocals and has a natural ability to write music and sing any genre. She is a model and a part time beautician. She was a student at the (Music Academy of Gauteng). She’s currently working with the legendary Selaelo Selota known for his famous song Thrrr...Phaaa as a backing vocalist.

Like many young women in South Africa, after high school she was attracted to the world of woman elegance, woman essence and beauty. It was no wonder that she enrolled to become a beautician. However, after completion she did not enjoy the work that she was doing. Like a true artist who answers to the call of destiny, she was back on yet another quest. This time taking the direction of being an office administrative studies. It would be her last as she found herself this time tapping her feet behind the desk as she embarked on her new direction. It reminded her of the many times she swayed to the music as she worked her magic in her previous beautician job. Snapping her fingers and humming beautiful melodies told of a different person. The one who would find peace and assurance as she stands before a multitude of a crowd singing along with her. At that point she realized her real calling. Without any excuse of time wasted she dusted herself off from the desk and enquired about the nearest music academy. In 2015 she started learning music, but work in the music industry was already waiting for her. And so she continues to study while performing professionally. Because she has now found her destiny. You also find your teacher and you grow with every step you take. But Surprise Malanga has found herself in the shoes of a teacher. Teaching music lovers the secrets and the magic of music.

Surprise Malanga was mentored by the late Dr Johnny Mekoa who introduced her to jazz music and live performances in 2015 - 2018. She performed with the big band at Standard bank joy of Jazz opening for Bob James. MK 55th year Anniversary. Ekurhuleni African Day. The 7th edition Africities Summit. Tribute to Oliver Thambo and Mama Thandi Klassen memorial service and most lottery and standard bank events just to name a few.  She also did numerous event with the legendary Selaelo Selota from the year 2017 till now. She occupied big stages such as Tembisa Jazz Festival, Bonbela Jazz Festival, Ugu Jazz Festival, Franciston Jazz Festival, Musina Annual Show, Mapungubwe Festival, Mahika, Mahikeng Festival,Nubian Festival, Fezile Dabi Festival, Standard bank of Jazz and many more. She does studio sessions and backings for other artists, and
collaborations with other artists. She also performs as a solo artist in conferences, live sessions, weddings, funerals, corporate functions and other special events.
