Tambarimba Marimba Music Festival
Bio
The Tambarimba Marimba Music Festival is an event in Zimbabwe that was established by Tambarimba Arts, a company owned by Don Chidavaenzi. The popular event was created to identify, develop and showcase the plenty of artistic talent in the country and to help encourage and protect cultural heritage through marimba music.
The idea behind the event is to revive traditional music from grassroots level across the country. This was after researchers found out that the rise of Zimdancehall and foreign genres was putting traditional music under threat.
On 27 September 2014, Tambarimba Arts hosted its maiden Tambarimba Marimba Festival for schools. The event was attended by 30 schools which participated in many activities held in association with the Zimbabwe College of Music.
On 16 November of the same year, the organisation partnered with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) to embark on a drive that was designed to promote the use of traditional instruments in schools around the country. The event features participants from neighboring countries like Namibia, Botswana and Zambia.
