University of Eastern Africa, Baraton

This university was accredited in 1991. It is operated and supported by the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Music is a department within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, opening in 1985. Music is taught as a second teaching subject for the secondary level of teaching.

Programme detail: Bachelor of Music in Music Education. Four years. To prepare music teachers for secondary schools and teachers’ colleges. Studies in performance (which must also include piano, voice or guitar), theory of Western and African music, ethnomusicology, African song and dance, basic composition, choral conducting, church music and hymnology. A minor is also available in music.
