Vader Oa Lekaota, born Zamokuhle Mofokeng, is a multifaceted artist from Namahadi, Free State, South Africa. His stage name, meaning "Father" in Afrikaans, was bestowed upon him by former soccer star Hleza Mofedi, recognising Vader's versatility as a vocalist, Bongo drummer, songwriter, and dancer.
Raised in Namahadi, Vader's musical focus lies in Reggae, singing in both English and Sesotho. His live performances are electrifying, filled with energy and passion. As a songwriter and composer, Vader collaborates with producer This Guy SA and his band, The Encounter, to craft meaningful music.
Vader's distinctive roots reggae voice navigates various genres, including Dancehall and Afrobeats. While specialising in Reggae, he embraces features from diverse musical styles, having worked with artists from House Music, Tshepe (Sesotho hip hop), Gospel, and Afrosoul.
Inspired by everyday life, injustice, and unrighteousness, Vader creates music to inspire, educate, and raise consciousness. His influences include Lucky Dube, Peter Tosh, Tarrus Riley, and Thuthukani Cele. Born on September 3, 1993, Vader's musical journey began in 2006, with his first solo release in 2021 and a debut EP album in August 2022.
As an independent artist, Vader has collaborated with production houses across the continent, such as CoolPro Entertainment in Malawi. He draws inspiration from people, books, and personal experiences, believing that music and arts are essential to civilisation.
