Bio
Early Life
Velaphi Isaac Ngqaqu is a South African musician and composer. He is born [21 January 1982] and bred in Gauteng, the Westrand, Mohlakeng. He attended his primary school at Bulelani Primary School and later on went to Thuto Kelehakwe Secondary School. At the age of 17 that’s where his passion for music grew and he started to learn to play the guitar.
Early Career
After high school he then moved to Johannesburg, basking in the parking lots of Rosebank and just making R2 000 a day from odd jobs. Saving up the little he made, he was able to make a demo and got a deal in Gallo music and that’s where everything started for him. He began to meet lots of amazing artists that he associated himself with and that’s when he formed a group and was named Seed.
Career: Early 2010's
Velaphi’s music has a South African beat with a strong Afro-Cuban flavour. In 2009, Velaphi was nominated for a SAMA award and his second solo album, ‘Ikhala Kamnandi,’ is a favourite on local radio stations. He is part of a group that is best known for his debut album ‘In The Soil’ with his band, Seed. The band’s second album, ‘Germination’ was an entrant into the afro-soul/neo R&B category at the 14th MTN South African Music Awards. He has produced this short song for BDS South Africa.
Passion for music
Velaphi grew up being motivated and inspired by artists who played the guitar to an extent that he self- taught himself. He describes the guitar as an instrument that “talks to him”. He can easily connect with it and takes him to another world filled with serenity and tranquility.
Future Endeavors
Throughout his journey, he then later realized he was not happy and content with his work which later resulted him to terminate his contract and became a solo artist. He changed his stage name to Velaphi Live. He now owns his own company working with international relations travelling agency, which has contacts outside the country. He is doing live shows but will soon be releasing his latest album and will be collaborating with new producers from all over in the WORLD. His style is World Music.
