Waayaha Cusub
Bio
Waayaha Cusub is a Somali hip hop collective founded in Kenya in 2002.
It was founded by Shiine Akhyaar Ali, Waayaha Cusub and Falis Abdi. The group’s immigration card were revoked by Kenyan officials forcing them to seek for asylum in the Netherlands. The group raps with a message that challenges militants and extremist politics, Waayaha Cusub is recognized for its artistry as well as its activism. It was considered the most dangerous music festival in Somalian history. They first tasted success with songs touching on themes such as love, poverty and human rights.
In 2013, they organized the Reconciliation Music Festival in Mogadishu, the first international music festival to be held in Somalia's capital since the start of the civil war in the early 1990s.
