WAKAZI
Hailing from Tanzania, Wakazi (born Webiro Wassira) moved to the US in pursuit of the American Dream, but his love for music steered him to a new path & purpose. In no time, the self proclaimed "The Leader", went from freestyles & mixtapes, to opening up for big acts. He's evolved from a young prodigy to a lyrical giant who believes in nothing but work ethic.
Committed to his craft, now back in the motherland, Wakazi is poised to become Tanzania’s leading Hip Hop Ambassador, having a unique perspective that stems from his diverse background & exposure. He's keen on technical aspect of music, has commercial appeal and the ability to tackle social-political issues.
His signature blend of English & Swahili rhymes got him dubbed the “Bilingual Beast”. His ability to create context with clever usage of metaphors & wordplay is unparalleled, crediting his personal life experiences & his introspective mind.
A Kora Award nominee, radio hits, critically acclaimed album (Kisimani), a groundbreaking EP (Abacus EP), dazzling live performances (Sauti Za Busara) all in his resume, Wakazi still walks with a chip on his shoulders. He raps, "confess that I'm one of the best of all time, and in no time, I guess I'll be in your top 5".
Recently embarked on a leadership journey through opposition politics, aiming at being an advocate & catalyst of CHANGE.
Mix it up with pioneering a bilingual artistry movement in Tanzania (Temayai), Artists' Management (Workethic), Mentorship, Youth Capacity Building & Empowerment Initiatives, etc the platform is set for his dreams to be fulfilled; respect from peers, lyrically inclined, commercially viable, leave a Legacy & being…. The Leader.
