Bongani Givethanks Explores Nu Jazz and Heritage in New EP "Tsela"

In times of deep loss, perhaps the only response a creative can offer is to create. This is the path Bongani Sibanyoni, affectionately known as Bongani Givethanks, takes in his latest EP, Tsela. Through this release, Bongani continues his exploration of Nu Jazz while reflecting on identity.

The two-track EP is a rich blend of melodic chants and harmonies, highlighting Bongani’s signature vocal arrangements. The title track, Tsela, features poet and fellow band member Flex of He & I. His reflections, while simply presented, are imbued with the depth and layered essence of Sesotho storytelling. The EP also offers a soulful remix by deep house DJ 2sman and an intimate, stripped down version of the original song.

Tsela symbolises a transition, a musical journey from introspection to the celebration of life. With Tsela, Bongani Givethanks reaffirms his ability to blend modern jazz with African traditions, offering a sound that invites both deep reflection and joyful expression.
