The great people of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival are coming to Johannesburg, and there’s no better way to bring us together than a special Tuesday Funk edition at Untitled Basement. If you’re new to it, Tuesday Funk is Johannesburg’s biggest jam session — a monthly ritual that’s taken place every last Tuesday of the month since 2021, post-lockdown. It’s community-focused, artist-centric, and a bold redefinition of funk.
This is an unapologetic, unfiltered celebration of improvisation.
No jazz standards.
No straight covers.
No bands.
Artists perform in their personal capacity, free from genre limits and expectations.
The Format
18:00 – 19:00 Ms Niksta opens with a 2-hour DJ set
19:30 – 20:00: Featured artists jam
20:00 – 21:00: JustThemba DJ set
21:00 – 23:00 Open jam — Musicians from the audience welcome
23:00 – 01:30 Jab A Jaw closes the night
The evening is produced by “Telling Honest And Authentic Tales(THAT)” which consists of Jab A Jaw, and Siyabonga Mthembu.
Entrance is free, thanks to the great people at CTIJF supported by Concerts SA.
